Performance Goals

As a first approach infrastructure managers undertakings involved in the Corridor Rotterdam – Genoa joined forces with the national Ministries of Transport to set demanding objectives. The aim is to achieve at least the key criteria by 30%: + 30 % quality, + 30 % capacity, - 30 % transport time.

Together with these goals, they also defined means for achieving them. These consist first and foremost in creating interoperability (compatibility), e.g. by deploying ETCS (European Train Control System) respectively ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System) together with further harmonisation of the traction current supply. This eliminates the need to change locomotives, reducing journey times and costs at the same time.
In addition, infrastructure bottlenecks are also to be eliminated. This will take place primarily through infrastructure projects such as the Betuwe route, the Katzenberg tunnel, the NEAT projects (new transalpine rail route) and numerous other regional infrastructure projects.

The third component is the total service concept. This includes all measures to simplify procedures for the customer in international rail freight transport - from train path allocation via traffic and information management to border clearance procedures and freight handling.
