CER - Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies
CER’s main focus is to promote a strong rail industry that is essential to the creation of a sustainable transport system which is efficient, effective and environmentally sound. In this respect it acts as the railways’ collective voice for decision-makers at EU-level.
CODE24 – Corridor 24 Development, an INTERREG IVB NWE project
The project CODE24 intends the interconnection of economic development, spatial, transport and ecological planning along the trans-European railway axis (TEN-T) no. 24 from Rotterdam to Genoa. The objective is to accelerate and jointly develop the transport capacity of the entire corridor by ensuring optimal economic benefits and spatial integration while reducing negative impacts on the environment and population at local and regional level.
EIM – European Infrastructure Managers
EIM, the European Rail Infrastructure Managers, was established to promote the interests and views of the independent infrastructure managers in Europe, following the liberalisation of the railway market. EIM works to improve the development of the rail transport mode. It also acts as an advocacy organisation towards the European Institutions and together with the industry. It provides expertise to the appropriate European bodies including the European Rail Agency (ERA).
ERA - European Railway Agency
The Agency was set up to help create an integrated European railway area by reinforcing safety and interoperability. It also acts as the system authority for the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) project, which has been set up to create unique signalling standards throughout Europe.
ERFA - European Rail Freight Association
The mission of ERFA is to promote European rail freight transport and its stakeholders active in that area through the complete liberalisation of that market.
ERTMS Users Group
The ERTMS Users Group is a European Economic Interest Group for the harmonisation of the technical specifications and of the operational regulations of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). Under the Aegis of the European Commission and of the European Railway Agency (ERA), the member railways are working in close co-operation with the European Infrastructure Managers (EIM), the Community of European Railway (CER) and the European Signalling Industries (UNISIG).
RailNetEurope (RNE)
RailNetEurope (RNE) is a non-profit making association set up in 2004 by a majority of European Rail Infrastructure Managers and Allocation Bodies to enable fast and easy access to European rail, as well as to increase the quality and efficiency of international rail traffic. RNE’s aims are to provide support to Railway Undertakings (RUs) in their international activities (both for freight and passengers) and increase the efficiency of the IMs’ processes. Together, the Members of RailNetEurope are harmonising international rail transport conditions and introducing a corporate approach to promote the European railway business for the benefit of the entire rail industry across Europe.
UIC - International Union of Railways
The UIC is an international rail transport industry body. Its mission is to promote rail transport at world level and meet the challenges of mobility and sustainable development.
UNIFE - Union des Industries Ferroviaires Européennes
UNIFE represents Europe’s leading rail supply companies active in the design, manufacturing, maintenance and refurbishment of rail transport systems, subsystems and related equipment. Membership also extends to associated members, mostly composed of national railway industry associations. Its mission is to “promote rail market growth for sustainable mobility”. Four priorities are defined to achieve this mission:
- Promote European policies favourable to rail
- Shape a European interoperable and efficient railway system
- Ensure European rail supply industry leadership through advanced research, innovation and quality
- Provide members with market, technical and political intelligence
UNISIG - Union Industry of Signalling
A UNIFE working group founded in 1998 with the aim of drawing up the specifications for ERTMS/ETCS. UNISIG is an industrial consortium which was created to develop the ERTMS/ETCS technical specifications. As an associated member of UNIFE, a recognised stakeholder, UNISIG actively contributes to the activities of the European Railway Agency in the field of ERTMS/ETCS technical specifications.
