From sea to sea without barriers
The dream of a Europe without frontiers has nearly come true. This means new possibilities, but also new challenges. For example, international freight transport by rail needs cross-border solutions. The strategic foundation for this consists of six European ERTMS railway corridors. In terms of traffic, the corridor between Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Antwerp and Genoa is the most significant corridor and plays a pilot function.
The EEIG Corridor Rotterdam-Genoa project company is using this website to provide information about this path finding project and its objectives.

What we offer
The rail freight corridor from Rotterdam to Genoa runs along the River Rhine through the industrial heart of Europe and is connected to Zeebrugge and Antwerp via Cologne. This railway link serves the major industries and the most dynamic and fast growing economic regions as well as four deep-sea ports, six inland ports and around 50 intermodal terminals on 4900 kilometres of track.
The coordination of this international programme is being managed by the Management Board of the EEIG Corridor Rotterdam – Genoa EWIV, a European entity founded by rail infrastructure managers and supported by the European Union.
To prepare for the growing demand in the market and to offer the best quality for competitive rail freight services, the rail infrastructure managers ProRail, DB Netz, SBB Infrastruktur, BLS Netz and RFI joined forces in 2008 and launched a corridor programme comprising 1) the implementation of new technologies to allow interoperable traffic, 2) infrastructure enlargements and 3) smart logistics and operational procedures.
